Indy Honor Flight

Honoring Indiana’s Heroes with Balloon Joy 🎈

This past weekend I had the tremendous honor of partnering with Indy Honor Flight — an organization committed to transporting Indiana’s WWII, Korea, and Vietnam-era veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials built in their honor.

At Wild Blossom Balloons, I believe deeply in community service, celebrating legacy, and helping make moments unforgettable. So when the opportunity to provide balloon décor for this meaningful send-off presented itself, I jumped at the chance.

Why Indy Honor Flight matters

Indy Honor Flight is a 100% donor‐funded, all-volunteer organization whose mission is to ensure the oldest and most vulnerable veterans get the chance to visit the memorials built for them — before it’s too late. They place top priority on the oldest veterans and those who are terminally ill. It’s a beautiful mission of gratitude, respect, and urgency. For me, as someone rooted in this local community of Hendricks County and beyond, it was a fulfilling moment to combine my passion for balloon art with a cause that honors our veterans.

Here’s what we did for the event:

  • Created a vibrant balloon arch at the entrance to welcome the veterans and guests.

  • Provided balloon pillars in patriotic colors (reds, whites, blues, golds) to flank the entrance to the cafeteria.

  • Ensured every decoration was done with care, respect, and a cheerful tone — befitting the “wild about balloons” personality of Wild Blossom Balloons while still honoring the solemnity of the moment. Each balloon piece was designed to invite smiles, encourage celebration, and shine light on the meaningful service of the veterans.

Reflections on the day

Watching the families arrive and hearing the cheers of the community reminded me why this work matters beyond aesthetics. The balloons were fun, yes—but more than that, they signaled love, appreciation, and recognition for those who served.
